I am proud to add my voice in support of the Millennium Bulk Terminals project in Longview. The project is an excellent opportunity for the community and I am thrilled to see that Millennium has made strong commitments both to the economy and to the environment. Isn’t an EIS supposed to study the environmental impacts above and beyond what exists today? The old Reynolds site, where Millennium is located, has already been paved, piped and pulled carbon around for 70 years. The permits for this coal export facility were submitted over 4 years ago. Surely it can’t take much more time to conduct this environmental review. It’s an existing industrial site and it should not take another 70 years to get a permit for redevelopment. As you well know, an EIS is supposed to take a "hard look at environmental consequences" and reach a decision based on the facts presented. The scope of this document should be limited to the immediate impacted areas so we can keep moving forward. Hundreds of people with families are not only waiting but depending on having the security of a long-term, good-paying job.
